Extreme conditions require best sewing threads
A&E Gütermann special sewing threads for textile filters
Filters play an important role in keeping air and water as clean as possible, especially in industry. Filters have to meet high requirements in terms of function and safety – and this also applies to the sewing threads.
Gutach, 29.10.2024 – Clean air and water: Advanced filtration technology is accomplishing what was once unthinkable – transforming polluted industrial areas into clean cities. Clear water from oil-contaminated rivers or clean air from acrid exhaust fumes.
Chemicals, oil, moisture or gases with temperatures up to 250 °C are a great challenge for textile filters. Gas filters, dust filters, dry filters, liquid filters, pocket filters or particulate filters – each application requires different sewing thread characteristics.
Sewing threads used in industrial textile filters must therefore always be tailored to the filter and be extremely adaptable and robust – even over long periods of time.
Special sewing threads from A&E Gütermann meet the highest demands. Depending on the area of application, they fulfil different product characteristics:
- Temperature resistant
- Chemical resistance
- Resistant to hydrolysis
- Tear and abrasion resistant
- Anti-adhesive
- Silicone free
Application areas
In more than 50% of cases, polyester is the fibre material used for filtering. However, in extreme conditions, pure polyester is often not sufficient and other materials are required.
Pocket filters (HVAS)
Poly/Poly SF is a 100% polyester, machine-safe core spun thread for pocket filters that is silicone-free. It is ideal for heavily stressed seams, especially distance seams. The thread is made in Germany and comes in length sizes of 33,000 and 66,000 metres.
Silicone-free wet and dry filtration
Made from 100% polyester filament, Tera SF and Filan SF threads are suitable for use with non-silicone materials. They have high temperature resistance, excellent tear, abrasion and seam strength and are safe for machine use.
Oil filters and liquid filtration
These filters require high chemical resistance. The silicone-free, 100% PP continuous filament Polypropylen SF is designed for acid and alkali resistant applications and is suitable for oil filters due to its adhesive properties. It is also used in liquid filtration for its robust wet strength with minimal moisture absorption.
Hot gas filters
Polyacryl-Dolanit® is a 100% polyacrylic spun sewing thread with high resistance to chemicals and hydrolysis, as well as to dry and heat (better than polyester and polyamide 6.6/nylon). It has a continuous temperature resistance of about 125°C.
For a wide range of applications requiring high chemical and temperature resistance, the 100% polytetrafluorethylene PTFE continuous filament is ideal. The sewing thread is UV resistant, flame retardant and offers a continuous temperature resistance of up to 260 °C, short term up to 300 °C.
High-temperature resistant filters
High-quality aramid fibre filtration products are the best way to ensure the safety and efficient operation of hot gas filtration systems. A&E Gütermann offers special sewing threads that meet the requirements for high temperature resistance.
Aramid sewing threads can withstand 260°C continuously and 360°C for brief periods. In addition to their high heat resistance, aramid sewing threads are non-melting, flame-retardant and self-extinguishing. They are also resistant to chemicals, light acids and alkalis. They are certified to DIN EN ISO 15025.
